Wreath Storage Bags vs Boxes: Measure Before You Buy
A wreath's diameter is only part of its packed size. Check the depth, bow and projecting decorations, then choose a container and storage position that let you retrieve it without squeezing it.
Prepared October 13, 2026 · Artificial wreaths only. Published specifications; no hands-on product testing.

1. Measure the complete shape
Lay the artificial wreath down as its care instructions allow. Measure the widest points including projecting decorations, then the perpendicular width if its shape is uneven. Check depth from the back of the frame to the highest decoration or bow. Do not use the bare ring diameter as the size of the decorated wreath.
Compare those measurements with the usable interior and opening of the selected container. Handles, internal supports, curved sides and a lid can affect the space available. If the seller gives only “fits up to” a diameter, ask about a particularly deep wreath before ordering.
Worked example: a hypothetical wreath measuring 60 cm across and 15 cm deep needs those two checks. A box with a 65 cm external width might still be too small inside. Measure or confirm the actual opening and interior; this example does not recommend a fixed clearance or guarantee fit.
2. Compare the organizing format
| Format | Potential use | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Soft wreath bag | A dedicated cover that can be carried to a suitable storage spot | Diameter, depth, closure, and the manufacturer's support or hanging arrangement. Soft sides do not establish crush protection. |
| Rigid box | A defined container shape on a suitable shelf | Usable opening, lid clearance and how you lift out the wreath. Check the box's own stacking limits; rigidity is not a tested load rating. |
| Original packaging | A possible starting point for the same wreath | Condition, reusable design and whether the current decorations still fit. Replace damaged packaging that no longer serves the need. |
A carrying handle is not automatically a hanging system. A zippered cover is not automatically waterproof. Compare the exact model's instructions rather than assigning every bag the same capabilities. A large organizer that does not fit your closet or shelf can create a new problem.
3. Two real bags to compare
These examples illustrate different product details, not a tested ranking. The first source serves the U.S. market; the second is a Canadian retailer. Check delivery to your address, selected variant and current availability. A rigid-box format is discussed above, but we have not tested or selected a particular rigid box.
| Example | Published fit and size | Format details | Current source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Balsam Hill Wreath Storage Bag — Medium variant | Fits up to a 36 in / 91.4 cm wreath; listed height 9 in / 22.9 cm | Polyester; inner hanger and carrying handle. Confirm the exact hanging instructions. | Check current price and variant — U.S. |
| Northlight Direct Suspend, model 34181656 Home Depot Canada SKU 1001600788 | Listed for up to 36 in / 91.4 cm wreaths; product text gives 36 × 36 × 9 in / 91.4 × 91.4 × 22.9 cm | Direct-suspend design attaches support to the wreath frame through the cover. Use the exact instructions. | Check current price and availability — Canada |
The Northlight page's specification fields assign height and width differently from its product text; the same overall extents are shown in different orientations. Ask the seller to confirm the orientation and usable space if they matter to your fit. Neither listing establishes the room available for your particular bow or decorations.

4. Decide where the filled organizer will go
For shelf storage, measure the usable surface, height above it and room for retrieval. Check whether the opening faces a useful direction. Plan a separate location for heavier objects rather than assuming they can sit on top of the wreath.
For hanging storage, choose a product explicitly designed for it and follow both the organizer and support manufacturer's requirements. Do not hang a bag from any convenient handle or rely on an unknown hook. This guide does not specify wall fasteners or assess your wall's capacity.
A large circular bag may be awkward at a narrow closet opening even if there is room farther inside. Try a cardboard outline of the filled size through the intended route. Test it gently without placing the wreath under pressure.
5. Prepare and label the wreath
Balsam Hill advises cleaning artificial greenery, removing decorations that are not attached, and using appropriate original packaging or dedicated storage. Follow the particular wreath's care instructions, especially for integrated lights and removable batteries.
Keep its instructions and matching accessories identifiable. A simple label can record the display location, model and container number. Preserve the manufacturer's labels. Choose storage conditions that suit the product; a bag does not make a damp or excessively hot location suitable.

Common questions
Will a 36-inch bag fit every 36-inch wreath?
Not necessarily. Compare the decorated shape and depth, and ask about usable space if the listing does not provide enough detail. “Fits up to” is a seller claim rather than a test of your wreath.
Can I stack other storage on a wreath box?
Only follow the exact container's stacking instructions and limits. A rigid appearance or a photograph does not prove that a filled box can carry another load.
Does this apply to fresh or dried wreaths?
No. This guide covers artificial wreaths. Fresh, preserved and dried materials have different care needs; use guidance for that specific product.
